THE 1980s

The 5th hospital (pictured on the left) officially opened November 22, 1988. In 1989, the 4th hospital became the Mattagami Centre.

NINA BLOUIN
COGENERATION PLANT

In April, an announcement came of a $20 million construction project consisting of the building of a cogeneration plant. The mill would sell power to Ontario Hydro.

Nina Blouin, principal at Ste-Gertrude School since 1970, was the first to act as principal for both the Ste-Gertrude and Georges-Vanier Schools. She maintained this position until her retirement in 1994. Nina had been a school principal for 24 years.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Smooth Rock Falls Heritage Centre/Museum is open during July and August, Monday to Friday, 10am to  4pm.

After hours, and off season,  visits can be made by contacting the Volunteer Curator for an appointment.
